Brief Bio

Dr. Gianfranco Doretto is a research scientist and a project manager at General Electric Global Research. He received the Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), in 2005 and 2002 respectively, and a D.Eng. degree in Electronics Engineering (with highest honors) from the University of Padua, Italy, in 1998. He has more than ten years of experience in the field of image processing and computer vision. From 1996 to 1999 he was with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Padua, first as a research assistant, then as a research staff. In 2000 he spent eight months as a visiting researcher with the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, before joining the UCLA Computer Science Department as a research assistant, where he worked until 2005. His research interests span several areas related to computer vision, with a current focus on statistical modeling of video signals for aerial and ground surveillance applications. Dr. Doretto regularly serves as a referee for several peer reviewed journals, such as IEEE TPAMI, and for several peer reviewed conferences, such as CVPR. He is the author of 10 pending patents, and more than 20 refereed academic publications. He is a member of the IEEE, the IEEE Computer Society, and Sigma Xi.
